In 2002, I created KaptainMyke.com
as a place for photoshoppers to make fun of pop culture,
movies, and tv shows. In 2005, a Cafepress Store was born
and I never looked back since.
In 2005 of that same year, I was diagnosed with Multiple
Sclerosis, Spinal Arthritis, and Ebstein Barr Virus. During
the first MRI, doctors discovered 7 lesions on my brain
and 4 lesions on my spinal cord. I can no longer work
a full time job. 7 years later, I have outrageous food
sensitivity issues, panic attacks, and I can barely move
around my home.
My son was born in 2007, only to discover by 2009 he was
diagnosed with Autism. I simply try to make whatever money
I can working from home for myself and my wonderful yet
very unlucky family.
In 2008, the economy crashed and Cafepress changed their
bonus structures and forced everyone to make only 10%
commission on all Cafepress products sold in the Cafepress
Marketplace.
Now, in 2012 Cafepress ordered me to remove and close
down all unofficial fan based movie and tv shirts, yet
all my competitiors still are selling their unofficial
fan made designs yet I had to remove all my bestselling
movie and tv shirts. I was the first Macgver Phoenix Foundation
shirt, Clark Griswold Walley World shirt, and Tommy Boy
Callahan Auto Parts Shirts....but I can't sell them at
Cafepress anymore.
I wasn't ever going to write any of this sob story in
my About Page but I can't help it anymore. This is my
story, whether it sounds like a sad story in order to
get you to buy something from me....but hey, it's the
honest to God truth and maybe now you, and all my competitors,
can finally understand the ugly truth about KaptainMyke.
Even though I wasn't the first person to create an unlicensed
fan made unofficial tv or movie shirt, I did become a
major pioneer in creating shirts and gifts that have fictional
logos from ficitional products or companies from within
films and television shows. I always wanted to land a
licensing deal with some sort of movie studio or television
show studio but alas, I've never been approached or asked
to become a part of such a wonderful opporotunity. Oh
well, right?
Please, buy a t-shirt or gift from me to help support
my wonderful family.
Thanks,
Michael Sorensen, "KaptainMyke".
